Internationally acclaimed sports climber Kim Ja-in will scale the 28-story KNN building in Centum City this weekend as part of a charity drive for underprivileged children during the Cass Light Buildering in Busan event.
Yes, even we had to look up the word Buildering. Turns out it is a combination of building and bouldering, and refers to the act of climbing a building rather than rocks or mountains.
At anyrate, Kim is happy to be scaling some buildings in Busan to help out the kids.
I am really looking forward to the climb since it is something I have always wanted to do, Kim said. I hope that this climb will promote awareness about sports climbing. Also, the climb is all the more meaningful because it will help children in need.
Kim is a member of the Northface Climbing Team and in 2011 she placed first in six of the eight International Federation of Sports Climbing (IFSC) events, including the Bouldering World Cup. This up from five first place finishes in 2010.
More recently Kim participated in the 2013 IFSC Women Lead World Cup held in Briancon, France where she placed first again while remaining atop the world rankings.
The charity climb this Saturday involves Kim scaling the frame of the building using only a rope and her skill. Police officers and firefighters will be on the scene during the climb to monitor and supervise for safety
For every 10 meters Kim climbs, one million won will be donated to the Grace Home, a Busan-based child welfare institution for underprivileged children.
The climb is being co-sponsored by All That Sports, Cass, Korea New Network and Daum Communications. The event kicks off at 3pm according to the official poster, but several new outlets are saying it starts at 2pm. If you want to play it safe, get their early.
