VIDEO: Korean Coast Guard Releases Footage of Captain Escaping the Ship

JINDO, South Korea – The Korea Coast Guard has revealed a video clip taken during the time of the sinking of the Sewol ferry, which shows the captain Lee Jun-seok and sailors escaping the ship.

The nine-minute and 45-second long clip shows the captain leaving the ferry in his underwear and the sailors climbing on a coast guard’s rescue boat. This happened before the coast guard had even launched the Sewol’s life rafts into the sea.

The clip shows only a handful of passengers were out on the deck waiting for help during the time of the captain and sailors’ departure. The men were among the first to be rescued. The Coast Guard released the rescue video after controversy arose over why the clip was not made public shortly after the accident.
