BUSAN, South Korea – With her second visit to Korea, the talented and acclaimed spinstress, Roxy June, is excited about being back in the ROK. In an interview with the Bangkok Post, Roxy sang the praises of her last gigs in Korea.
''The Koreans made me feel like a big star. Dancing in front of the stage, they enthusiastically reached out to me and I was shaking their hands along with mixing sounds. You don't normally get that zealous response in a Bangkok club.''
Roxy June got her start in the Thai underground DJ circuit alongside some of the best in Asia. While she is first noticed for her good looks, she has paid her dues and earned respect as one of the top female DJ’s in the world.
Seven years into her work as a professional DJ, Roxy enjoys an Asia-wide fanbase spinning in Japan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong ,Laos & Cambodia, which have all experienced her awesome precision on the turntables.
Now with her regular shows on Bangkok's UB Radio, Roxy June is ready to bring it back to the peninsula one more time. Expect to hear the cutting edge sounds from styles ranging from House Music, Tech-House, Techno, Progressive, Minimal, to Electro.
Roxy says that her time behind the turntables is more than just spinning, mixing and scratching tunes.
''I move naturally to the music and use a lot of eye contact to connect with the audience. Some female club deejays are notable for their body movements but we're not coyote dancers,'' she said. ''We're artists, we're entertainers and each of us has our own style in delivering music. What's rewarding for me is to see people having fun and floating away to my mixes.''
You can check out Roxy June this Saturday at Vinyl Underground in Kyungsung. She will be joined by Black Ilumin, Dj-pandol Park, Dj-Roxy June, DJ-Knuckle Do. The cover is 10,000 won and that includes a free drink. For more info on the show go here.
