The city of Busan will reduce the number of taxis in the city next year to bolster the local taxi business. The plans include cutting 3,000 taxis, worth about 114 billion won, by 2018.

Five people were injured and some 400 others evacuated after the air-conditioning system on a subway train caught fire in Busan.

Foreigners Account For 1.5% of Busan Population

Heat Warning Issued for the Southern Peninsula

A heat wave will hit Busan and Gyeongnam after Typhoon Neoguri's path diverted around the country earlier this week. Temperatures are expected to rise to 32 degrees Celcisus, or about 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

Damage Reported as Typhoon Neoguri Hits Jeju

Damage has been reported in Jeju as the island is beginning to fall under the direct influence of Typhoon Neoguri. A typhoon warning is in effect, and multiple flights have been grounded. Beaches and Hallasan National Park have been closed, while some schools are also cancelling classes.

Neoguri is expected to be weaker as it continues to move northward. However, southern parts of the peninsula are forecast to receive up to 30 millimeters of heavy rain per hour due to effects of the typhoon.
