Suspect Caught After 300 Evacuated in Terror Threat at Busan Shinsegae Department Store


BUSAN, South Korea — A 23-year-old civil servant worker has been arrested by Haeundae police for making a terror threat against Shinsegae Department Store in Centum City this morning, resulting in 300 customers being evacuated according to KNN News.

According to the police, Mr. Oh, a Busan Jin-gu office worker, made a phone call to the Kyobo bookstore library at 11:10 a.m. asking ‘why they sold books’. He then threatened to do a terror attack on the mall in three hours.

After workers immediately called security, over 180 police and SWAT team members converged on the scene while evacuating guests and conducting a search for explosives which turned up empty. Over 250 workers remodeling the first floor were also evacuated at 1:20 p.m.

Shinsegae was closed today for its scheduled day off, however, the bookstore and theater remained open.
