BUSAN, South Korea — Described as a ‘hookup between artists and musicians” Super Sketch is and exciting concept that brings together art and music through the prism of a special concept or theme. Busan partygoers can expect an extrasensory audio visual experience.
Set up by the Super Sketch collective, an arm of Super Color Super, the Seoul based indie music company that has put on shows and brought artists like Toro Y Moi, Gold Panda, Das Racist, and Caribou, out to Korea, the idea behind the Super Sketch parties is to have fun in the space where art and music collide. Everything is live, which adds to the feeling that you’re actually in the art.
This original take on the traditional art party provides relief for Busan art lovers who are tired of just visiting the same old galleries, or catching the same bands every weekend. At Super Sketch the audience is treated to a mash up of high energy live music performances while live visual art is projected onto overhead screens simultaneously. The effect is almost hallucinogenic. Everywhere you look there’s something to feast your eyes and ears on!
Super Sketch 2010 in Seoul
Super Sketch is also and extremely dynamic showcase, with everything from live drawing, to psychedelic visuals, to shadow puppets on display. The common denominator however is that its all hands on, analog stuff – a condition that affords a way for the Super Sketch Collective to bust through the generic humdrum that can often befall similar art showcases. In a world where so much is digital, its easy to simply get lost amongst the myriad of sounds and pictures we’re fed everyday. The analog aspect crushes the boring, complacent way we ted to look at art these days, and really lets the audience into the process.
Even if you’re not that familiar with Busan’s emerging art scene, the Super Sketch musical performances are a thrilling affair, this time, featuring Wake Up, Eric Anderson, and Genius.
Super Sketch parties also feature a craft market where various pieces of the artists work on display are sold, and the Super Sketch collective offers screen printing services and indivual artists to create promotional work, as well as custom embroidery services.
The Super Sketch party has been welcomed with open arms with its Seoul events, becoming a major influence, and opening up the scene to emerging artists and bands, and affording creatives a platform to provide their own unique and diverse output
