Sunset Live Festival Anchors a Packed Weekend of Music

BUSAN, South Korea – Sadly, summer is coming to a close. The parasols on Haeundae Beach will soon disappear while street and music festivals will become fewer and fewer. If you are looking for one last day of fun in the sun, this Saturday’s Sunset Live Festival in Yangsan is the crowning event on another great summer.

In its fifth year, Sunset Live has steadily grown to include more well-known acts in all genres of music from jazz to rock and reggae. This year boasts some major acts from Korea, as well as outside the peninsula. Out of the nineteen-plus bands this year, highlights include Kingston Rudieska (ska), Every Single Day (Indie rock), Windy City (reggae), Bard (traditional Irish), Burning Hepburn (Punk), Crossnote (Jazz) and Busan’s own darlings of the expat music scene, One Drop East.

“This has been organized with all the support of all the great musicians and bands including Busan’s music lovers and music organizers,” said Kim Jong-goon, the Chief Organizer of Busan Sunset Live Festival.

Every Single Day

The festival itself is a spin-off of the wildly popular Fukuoka Sunset Live Festival in Japan.  Concert-goers usually bring blankets and picnic baskets for relaxation during the day, so you might want to prepare for the outdoors. Additionally, this year, there will be a swimming pool available if you’d like to escape the heat. The atmosphere, along with the music, is friendly and chill. As it gets dark, however, the bands get louder and the audience moves closer to the stage for a better view. The venue this year is the picturesque Eden Valley Ski Resort in Yangsan, so expect some beautiful scenery to go along with the music. This is definitely unique to any other music festival in Busan.

Burning Hepburn

Tickets are 33,000 won on the day of the event, or Busan Haps readers can take advantage of the pre-sale special price of 28,000 won. Admittedly, the ticket prices are a bit steep for a Korean event, but the organizers definitely won’t gouge you at the beer and food tents. Expect to pay around 2,000 won for a beer, and less than 5,000 for a meal. There will be no outside drinks allowed.

Sunset Live is an all-day festival –  music starts at 1 p.m. and finishes around 10 p.m.
