BUSAN, South Korea – It’s that time of year again to adorn the green and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Busan. Though there aren’t any parades, there’s a lot of activities going on this year as the big event falls on a Saturday.
Here is a look at some of the events going on around Busan and around the local area. Put on your green and head out for a night of fun and a bit o’ the Irish this Saturday. More listings will be added during the week as we find out about them, so check regularly for the latest updates.
Basement (PNU) – The longest continuous Saint Patrick’s Day party in the peninsula, the Basement are hosting the 17th Cullivan St. Patrick’s Day Party. Starting at 3 p.m., ten bands will hit the stage all day and night with drink specials, a Miss Saint Paddy’s Day contest, and drink specials galore. Event
The Wolfhound (Haeundae) – The Wolfhound is doing a St. Paddy’s Day weekender with festivities kicking off Friday night with Live Acoustic Music and Pour Your Own Doubles, the "All Day Party” on Saturday, and then Rehab Sunday with 5000 won double Bloody Marys. The Wolfhound will open at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Blue Monkey (Kyungsung) The first 30 people in the door get a free Guiness T-shirt. That is if you are wearing green, of course. Drink specials all night and a best dressed contest.
Beached (Gwanganli) – The Busan Bandits Rugby team are hosting the 1st Annual St. Patty’s Day Beer Olympics, which kicks off at 8. After the Bandits second country-wide tourney, head to Beached to compete for alcoholic glory. You need to pre-register for the event.
Ol’55 (Kyungsung) – The “Rice Paddies” aka the St. Paddy’s Day All-stars, a mix-up of local groups around the city including members of One Drop East, Poko Lambro and the Headaches, are going to be jamming around 10 p.m. If you missed last year’s show, you don’t want to miss this one.
Vinyl Underground (Kyungsung) – Nachopupa will be playing a concert with five other bands with a punk/ska Celtic theme.The shows begin around 8 p.m. and cover is 10,000 won but includes one free drink.
Thursday Party (Citywide) – Thursday Party will be having green beer for 3,000 won and Aqua Bombs for 6,900 won at all their locations around the city and in Daegu. Beer Pong and their curry popcorn are always a fun bonus.
Seaman’s Club (Pier 3) – The Seaman’s Club on Pier 3 behind Busan Station will be holding a traditional Irish meal from noon to 8 p.m. Wear your green and make your reservation to one of the best meals in town.
Soultrane (PNU) – Soultrane in PNU is hosting a St. Patrick's Day N Hopping Party, with lots of good drink specials and live acoustic music.
Club Fix (Seomyeon) – Though not exactly a St. Patrick’s Day affair, the super nightclub Club Fix is hosting an “All White” party. Great place to get your dance on should you be in the spirit.
Caribe (Seomyeon) – Caribe in Seomyeon, famous for their Latin grooves and Salsa Dancing, is hosting a free entrance to learn salsa, and then to dance the night away to a DJ after nine.
O’Kims (Haeundae) – O’Kims bar, located in the Westin Chosen Hotel, is offering a three day St. Patrick’s Day Festival from the 16th to the 18th. They have specials Irish menu, plus Guinness on tap.
O’Briens Irish Pub (Changwon) – For those out in Changwon, you can check out the O’Briens Irish Pub Paddy Bash, which opens at 3, lots of traditional music, face painting, drunken dancing, rugby and a dart tournament.
Royal Anchor (Ulsan) – The Royal Anchor in Ulsan is hosting the “Dear God, help us. It's… The Least Sober Day of The Year!” event, with 5,000 won Guinness, spontaneous happy hours, and a lot of drunken revelry.
Pub Portobello (Pohang) – Pub Portobello will be hosting “Gig Night”, with two main bands from Jeonju for the evening as well as a couple of headliners.
