South Korea Draw Russia 1-1 in WC Opener

South Korea played Russia to a 1-1 draw in their opening Group H showdown at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil this morning.

After a scoreless first half, the teams traded a goal apiece in the decidedly more spirited second half.

South Korean substitute Lee Keun-ho scored on a seemingly harmless shot in the 68th minute, as the Russian custodian Igor Akinfeev failed to get a grip of the shot from the top of the box.

The lead lasted only six minutes, however, as Aleksandr Kerzhakov, a sub for Russia, scored in a mad scramble near the South Korean net.

South Korea will next face Algeria in Porto Alegre on Sunday, while Russia has a date with Belgium on the same day in Maracana.
