BUSAN, South Korea – The KT Sonic Boom had a helluva run this season, but it all came to a close this weekend as the second-seeded Boom were ousted from the best-of-five series by KCC Egis 88-77 in Game 4 in Jeonju.
The Egis will take on the regular season champion Ulsan Mobis for a best-of-seven championship series that starts on Wednesday.
The Sonic Boom trailed the home team Egis 48-38 at the end of the first half, but closed the gap in the third quarter to 54-50 with Jasper Johnson, Park Sang-o and Kim Young-hwan all contributing to the near comeback.
But the Egis hung tough. When Johnson and Park, the top scorer for the Sonic Boom with 23, both failed to score on consecutive possessions, the game was in the bag from then on for Egis.
The Sonic Boom still have a lot to be proud of this year. After finishing dead last in the previous season, they managed to place second in the Korean Basketball league with an impressive 40-14 record. And Boom star Jasper Johnson was the leauge's 3rd leading scorer with 19.5 points a game.
Better luck next year fellahs, and congratulations on an otherwise fine season.
