BUSAN, South Korea – Sohn Ah-seob’s walkoff RBI single in the bottom of the ninth saved the Giants Sunday afternoon, giving Lotte a 6-5 win and a dramatic sweep of Hanwha in the opening weekend of KBO action.
Sohn had three hits in both games over the weekend, but he saved the best for last pounding a deep single to score Jeon Joon-woo from second. After Lotte fell behind 2-0, they rallied for a five run sixth inning only to let Hanwha climb back and tie it on Kim Tae-kyun’s 9th inning RBI which runner Lee Dae-soo slid under a waiting Kang Min-ho tag which would have ended the game.
In the ninth, Jeon and Moon Kyu-hyun walked to start the ninth before Sohn ended the game, giving the Giants the sweep. Kim Sa-yeol (2-0) won his second game in relief.
Lotte came from behind on Saturday with a Park Jong-yoon sacrifice fly to win 6-5 to cap a two run ninth to win their season opener. Sohn Ah-seob went 3-3 with three runs scored and Kim Sa-yeol picked up the win in relief.
Lotte now moves on for a three game series with new rivals NC in Changwon starting Tuesday.
