All-girl group Girls' Generation has topped the Japanese music chart Oricon's Weekly album chart this week.
The popular girl's group debut Japanese album "Girl's Generation" sold 232,000 copies in the first week of sales, slightly higher than BOA's 231,000 copies of "Listen to my Heart" back in 2002.
Of their success, the girl's stated: “We’re grateful to our fans that always support us in getting our Japanese debut album to #1 on Oricon. The chart is great, of course, but the fact that so many people are listening to our album is even better and makes us all so happy. We sincerely hope that this album gives the people of Japan even just a bit more courage and a light of hope”.
SNSD is the first Korean female group to have their album debut at #1. Six Korean artists have topped the weekly chart this year by album or single, including Big Bang and KARA.
