Rescued Vice Principal of High School Commits Suicide

JINDO, South Korea — The vice principal of Danwon High School who was rescued from the Sewol ferry accident committed suicide today according to local police, further adding to the tragedy that has so far claimed 25 lives.

Kang Min-kyu, 52, was found hanging from a tree near a gymnasium at 4:05 p.m. today apparently grief stricken that he survived the accident while his students didn’t according to local media.

He’d been missing since Thursday. He left behind the note that read:

‘I can’t live while students are missing. It’s all my fault. I suggested the trip. Put my ashes around the ship. I will be the teacher of the students in heaven.’
