Rescue Underway for Sinking South Korean Ship Carrying 320 High School Students

JINDO, South Korea — A ship carrying 350 passengers, including 320 students is currently sinking in waters off Jindo, South Jeolla Province according to local and international reports.

According to Yonhap News, the ship was heading to Jeju Island when it apparently collided with rocks during heavy fog. The students from Danwon High School in Ansan, was heading to the island for an educational excursion.

As of 10:30 a.m. over 120 have been rescued according to Yonhap, but CNN has reported that all passengers have been told to jump into the waters, which currently have a 55’F temperature.
