The Busan Nakdong-River Management Headquarters said it will not open the water park in Samrak Ecological Park in Sasang-gu this year because of safety concerns.
The result of a joint safety inspection of 20 water parks in Busan last month by Busan City and the National Emergency Management Agency in the aftermath of Sewol Ferry Accident showed that the water-play area in Samrak Ecological Park has a high risk of injury from rocks installed at the edge of the water-play area.
The management office said it had not secured the 300 million won required to correct the mistake, so opening the water park area this year would be impossible.
The office plans to reopen the water play area next year after changing the rock edge to a more safe material.
