SEOUL – The 13th Mnet Asian Awards will shift locations this year to Singapore, as it shifts from last year's show which was held at the Venetian Macau. It will be held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on November 29th.
TVXQ, B2ST, Big Bang, Super Junior and 2PM are up for the best male group award, while Brown Eyed Girls, Girls’ Generation, Kara, 2NE1 and f(x) compete against each other in the best female group section. Kim Hyun-joong, Park Jae-beom, Jang Woo-hyuk, HyunA and G.NA are nominated for the best dance performance by a solo singer.
The show has been criticized in the past for only honoring Korean artists, though representing itself as "the best in Asia." To that effect, they will offer a few awards to singers of other countries as well.
The show is considered one of the biggest promotions for Korean music and culture in Asia. However, local broadcasters have complained that with all of the top pop stars out of the country, local shows schedules suffer from a lack of quality talent. Entertainment company SME also boycotted the event in 2009.
International acts Teen Top, Show Luo, Hebe Tien and Zhang Yun Jin are rumored to be in attendance of the show as well.
