South Korea’s low-cost carriers (LCCs) transported more than half of domestic passengers for the first time last year, industry data showed today.
It comes as more consumers opted for their cheaper and improving flight services for short-distance travel.
According to the data compiled by Jeju Air, the country’s largest budget carrier, the country’s five LCCs provided flight service to a combined 12.49 million passengers on their domestic lines last year.
The figure represents a 16 percent increase from a year earlier.
Air Busan, an affiliate of Asiana Airlines, came next by flying 2.85 mill passengers or 11.7 %, followed by Jin Air, a unit of Korean Air, and T’way Airlines with 2.23 mill and 2.2 mill, respectively, the data showed.
Eastar Jet Company trailed with 1.81 million passengers.
