BUSAN, South Korea — The Lotte Giants came back to earth after a terrific 5-0 start to the season, losing both games to KIA to drop to second in the standings after the first full weekend of games to the young season.
Sohn Ah-seop continued his torrid start to the season with his first homerun, a solo shot in the sixth, and also had two more hits but it wasn’t enough as the Giants fell 3-1 to KIA on Sunday. Shane Youman (1-1) lost in the pitching battle of former major leaguers as Seo Jae-woong pitched five effective innings, while Youman pitched six innings, giving up four hits and two runs. He also struck out four and walked an uncharacteristic six batters.
On Friday night, KIA exploded for a six-run seventh inning to take the first game of the series 9-3. The Tigers had 12 hits and hammered reliever Kim Seung-hee, who only faced five batters but gave up five runs and five straight hits. Chris Oxspring took the loss, pitching six innings, giving up four hits and three runs while striking out three.
Saturday’s game was postponed due to rain. The Giants now are on break until Friday when they start a three game series with Doosan.
