BEIRUT, Lebanon – Lebanon stunned group leaders Korea Tuesday 2-1 to pull level in Group B's Asia World Cup qualifying group.
Ali Al-Saadi and Abbas Atwi scored for Lebanon, who held on to defeat the Red Devils. Group B leader South Korea has 10 points, the same as Lebanon, which trails on goal difference after five games. Third-place Kuwait has eight points, while United Arab Emirates has zero.
Korea must now wait until February to face Kuwait in a must win or tie situation to go forward. Kuwait has been a formidable opponent for Korea, winning eight each and drawing the rest.
After the loss, many South Korean netizens called for the resignation of coach Cho Kwang-Rae, who blamed the defeat on a lack of top players and the pitch.
Lebanon faces a much easier test against the UAE, leaving the easy road to Brazil with a bit of doubt.
