BUSAN – The Busan I'Park won their first game of the 2011 season Wednesday night, with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over 12th place Gwangju in Rush Cash Cup action.
The first half was scoreless, though Busan controlled most of the first half. Gwangju had the best chance of the half in the 36th minute, but I'Park goalie Jeon Sang-wook made a great diving save.
Gwangju came on the attack in the second half, with two great chances by Kim Dong-sub, but he failed to convert both chances.
The I'Park nearly converted in the 79th minute, but their goal was disallowed after being ruled offside.
However, in the 83rd minute, Han Ji-ho finally broke the deadlock, and put the I'Park ahead for good.
They almost connected for a second but were denied by a great save in the 90th minute.
Defender Iain Fyfe said after the game that he was happy to get his first victory with his new club.
"It's great to get that monkey off our back. It feels good. It's one step at a time, and it's a good first step," he said.
The I'Park play their next game at home versus Incheon, Sunday at 3p.m.
