BUSAN – The Busan I'Park continued their solid play of late, defeating the first place Pohang Steelers 2 – 1 Sunday afternoon at the Asiad World Cup Stadium in 9th round action of the Hyundai Oilbank K League.
Park Jong-woo and Han Ji-ho led the charge early, but couldn't find the target on net, squandering chances against Pohang's tight defense.
Chuva nearly gave Pohang their first three minutes later, only to seen his header go right of the net.
Lee Jung-ho was at it again in the 25th minute, though his header once again went wide of the post off a corner kick.
The I'Park's efforts finally paid off, when Kim Chang-su finally broke the deadlock in the 30th minute on a beautiful free kick, which he headed in on a rebound off the crossbar.
The I'Park doubled their lead before half, on a Han Sang-woon solo effort, only to have Mota cut the lead in half a minute later, giving the I'Park a 2-1 halftime advantage.
Pohang came out determined in the second half, and had many opportunities to level in the first ten minutes, but Lee Beom-young made three fantastic saves to preserve the lead.
The I'Park defense stifled Pohang for much of the second half, frustrating their high-powered offense all game. Their emotions boiled over in the 88th minute, when a missed opportunity led to a rather long altercation which saw yellow for players from both sides.
After their slow start, the I'Park have leveled to three wins, three draws and three losses for the season, good enough for 12 points and 9th place in the table.
