SUWON, South Korea - Brazilian Everton da Silva's debut 42nd minute effort was the difference to lead the Suwon Bluewings to a 1-0 season opening victory over the Busan IPark at the Suwon World Cup Stadium.
Suwon, which knocked the IPark out of contention to end last season, controlled the tempo for the majority of the match, as the IPark failed to convert any of their 10 shots on net.
The 23-year-old Brazilian, Everton, converted a Lee Young-rae corner after breaking in front of the defender and tapping it into the left corner past a helpless Jeon Sang-wook.
The IPark had started the game on a positive note, controlling 59% possession in the first 20 minutes, but Lim Sang-huyb's left-footed effort on 17 minutes was wide right.
Suwon's trio of Everton, Radoncic, and Lee Young-rae applied pressure for most of the match, but Jeon Sang-wook thwarted to hosts on four separate occasions.
The IPark nearly leveled in the 85th minute, when Lim Sang-hyub's back-header off a Park Jong-woo header narrowly missed the corner post by inches to clinch the equalizer. But a minute later, the IPark were sent to 10 men when Kim Han-yoon was booked for a second yellow leaving the IPark deflated, and Suwon with the opening game victory.
