POHANG, South Korea – The Busan IPark narrowly escaped defeat Saturday, and ended up in a 2-2 draw with Pohang at the Pohang Steel Yard.
Pohang's Zicu scored a double, off two defensive blunders in the first 37 minutes to give Pohang an early 2-0 advantage. In the 9th minute, Kim Han-yoon failed clearance landed on the foot of Shin Hyun-min, whose shot was deflected off keeper Lee Bum-young while Zicu ran it to convert for a 1-0 lead.
Zicu then converted again when an errant back pass to Lee was intercepted by Zicu who chipped the ball past Lee for a 2-0 early advantage.
Pohang manager Hwang Sun-hong's decision to substitute Derek Asamoah in the 40th minute came back to haunt them quickly as Kim Han-yoon rectified his earlier mistake by heading a Park Jung-woo free kick past Shin Hwa-yong before the half to cut the lead in half.
The IPark came out inspired in the second, and were rewarded with the equalizer in the 69th minute when Lee Jung-won converted a Park Jong-woo corner to level the score.
The IPark nearly took the lead in the 84th minute, but substitute Han Ji-ho failed to convert a one-on-one chance off a Matt McKay corner.
Pohang looked to have the winner in the 87th off a Hwang Jin-sung corner, when substitute Park Sung-ho's header was clearly going in, but Zicu tapped it in behind the keeper and was called offside to an irate crowd. The match was held up for five minutes before the official restored order and the game ended in a point for both teams.
The IPark now have two draws and a loss on the season.
