The city of Busan and the Korea Airports Corporation announced plans to extend operating hours at Gimhae International Airport.
Both organizations held a public hearing early last month with local residents.
Current operation times are from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., with new times being projected from 5 a.m. to midnight.
The number of passengers using international flights at Gimhae Airport has grown thanks to an increase in international routes by budget carriers.
According to the aviation industry, the number of international flight passengers using Gimhae Airport was more than 500 thousand last month. This is an increase of 32.5 percent compared to the same period of last year.
The Busan-Taipei route saw the highest increase rate in passengers, recording about 37 thousand travelers last month, which is an increase of 90.5 percent compared to the same month of last year.
