Gimhae Airport Expansion Slated for 2021 Passes Crucial Feasibility Test

South Korea’s plan to break ground on an expansion of Gimhae airport in 2021 passed a crucial preliminary feasibility test, the transport ministry reported Monday.

The Korea Development Institute approved the 5.97 trillion won (US$5.2 billion) project which calls for the construction of a 3,200-meter-long runway, a new terminal and  facilities and infrastructure at the western part of the Gimhae International Airport.

The aim is expanded capabilities to handle 38 million passengers per year, compared to the present capacity of 17 million.

The target date for opening is 2026.
