The 23-year-old Brazilian, Fagner Silva José da Luz, who the Korean press simply refer to as “???,” may be small in stature, but he is looking to be a giant on the pitch. In his debut for the Busan I’Park Saturday night, he scored two late goals to lead the the team to a 4-3 victory over Suwon in K League action.
A handball in the box by defender Hwang Jae-hoon led to the first scoring opportunity of the game in the 21st minute. Macedonian national team member Stevica Ristic fired a penalty kick just barely past a diving Lee Beom-young to give Suwon a 1-0 lead.
Busan didn’t threaten until the 28th minute when Fagner leveled the game on a pass from Lim Sang-hyub, only to be called offside and the goal negated.
The I’Park threatened twice in the dying minutes of the first half, and were finally rewarded right before the break as Lim Sang-hyub’s deflection past Jung Sung-ryung leveled the score at one.
The I’Park dodged a bullet in the early second half, as Ristic once again had a penalty kick opportunity after a terrible call on Kim Han-yoon in the box. The I’Park caught a break as Ristic’s attempt missed to the left, keeping the score level at one.
The 69th minute brought the beginning of twenty minutes of goals. Yang Dong-hyun scored a beautiful goal, hitting the top shelf from the left side after a slick Han Sang-woon pass.
Fagner then went to work, netting his first seven minutes later of a high bounce kick pass from Yang Dong-hyun, to give I’Park a 3-1 advantage.
However, Suwon came roaring back with two quick goals, first a header by Lee Sang-ho, and then three minutes later, substitute Ha Tae-kyun blew by three defenders to level to score at three in the 83rd minute.
Fagner delivered the final blow two minutes later, after an impressive run from substitute Han Ji-ho who crossed to Fagner who made no mistake putting it into the empty net.
“I’m happy because the team has been very helpful,” he told us. “I like the speed and power of the K League game.”
