FA Cup Round of 32:
Busan Transportation Corporation Football Club vs Gyeongnam FC
Wednesday 23rd May, 7pm kick off
As this is an FA Cup game there will be a nominal entrance fee of around 3,000W.
"We bitch slapped them once and we'll bitch slap them again," said the ambassador.
The mighty Busan Transportation Corporation Football Club face neighbouring Changwon's Gyeongnam FC of the K League. Gyeongnam will return to Fortress Gudeok with harsh memories of their last visit still fresh in their mind. Indeed, at the same stage of the 2011 FA Cup the K League professionals were dealt a mighty blow by the Transport, with the Transport taking the spoils 2-1. The game went down in Transport history as one of the greatest, with a wonder goal to open the game, and a classic Transport late winner to send the Gudeok into hysteria.
Highlights of that memorable night can be found here:
The Transport go into the game on the crest of a stirling season. Currently lying 3rd in the National League, the BTC have only tasted defeat once in ten outings, boast the strongest defence in the league, and remain unbeaten at home.
Meanwhile K League Gyeongnam appear to be in disarray. The professionals are currently spiraling down the K League with only two wins in eleven outings, and no doubt relegation is becoming an increasing concern at the club. A Changwon based source has indicated that the manager has in fact lost the dressing room to the egos at the club, so it could be the mighty BTC that cause him to be given his marching orders.
All told, this will no doubt be another cracking FA Cup encounter at the Gudeok.
Gimme a B!
*** New folks ***
Welcome! Busan Transport are a semi-professional team who play in the National League, the second tier of Korean football. They play smart football and have a never-say-die attitude which often results in some great entertainment. Entrance for all of their games are FREE, and you are welcome to bring in as much food and alcohol as you can carry. The club have made our expat following very welcome, appointing one of our crew as "Club Ambassador" with his own cardboard cut-out, as well as lifts home on the team bus from away games, and even dinner with the team on the way! We have a core of regulars who like to make some noise with the aid of megaphones, vuvuzelas and drums, not to mention the special assistance from the drunk businessmen with their boxes full of soju!
Busan Transport play at the Gudeok Stadium, one of the venues for the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games and is the spiritual home of football in Busan. With a beautiful backdrop of the Gyeongnam mountains to the east, it is THE place to watch football in the city.
