“2017 Drone Show Korea”, Asia’s largest drone (unmanned aerial vehicle) event, will be held at BEXCO Exhibition Center 1 and the auditorium for three days from January 19th (Thur.) to January 21st (Sat.), hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and Busan City, and organized by Korea UVS Association.
Aimed at promoting the ecosystem of the globally emerging drone industry, and to help Korea become a drone powerhouse, “Drone Show Korea”, which was newly launched in January, 2016, and around which there was some concern because it was a first-time event and related to a nascent industry, turned out to be a successful start with the participation of 56 companies/institutions and 226 booths present. In particular, prestigious Korean companies and institutions such as Korea Aerospace Research Institute, Korean Air, Ucon System, Hanhwa Techwin, DJI, YUNEEC, and XIRO set up large numbers of booths in order to display various types of drones from a fixed unmanned aerial vehicle to a quad-copter that can be used for filming or leisure purposes.
On top of this, star guests from home and abroad and government officials all participated as speakers at the international conference that received more than 1.300 registrants. Moreover, many side events such as FPV racing, try-it-yourself sessions, video festivals, and photo galleries were held to garner feedback and contribute to enhancing the awareness of citizens about drones and expanding the base of drone.
Based on the successful 2016 event, “2017 Drone Show Korea” is preparing the second show based on Asia-leading MICE contents that suggest the direction of unmanned aerial vehicles and the drone industry. To this end, an MOU has been signed with the Chinese UAV Association on the exchange of speakers and participating companies, and a cooperative system with Japanese and Israel associations and organizations is being prepared. Furthermore, government forums, seminars, and briefing sessions by government and research institutions will be held at the same time to establish an arena of exchange for the opinion leaders of the Korean UAV and drone industry.
The exhibition will be expanded to 70 companies and 300 booths, to become the largest drone exhibition in Asia, in both name and reality. In addition, there will be a ‘special exhibition for university students’ showing the ideas and research results of students, together with ‘consulting on starting a business, patent support’, indoor demonstrations, new technology, and an investment presentation space, to promote actual cooperation and exchange among participating companies.
The conference has designated the ‘Evolution and Expansion of Drones’ as the theme for the current status of drones and to distinguish itself from other conferences that are limited only to current technology. More precisely, in order to suggest the technology direction to prepare for the future in which drones are owned and used by individuals, speakers in the fields of GPU, AI, GPS, autopilot, drone controlling system, and security will be invited, and the possibility of drones being used at sea, as well as drones combined with the content industry, will be discussed to predict the future of the drone industry. Also, together with the policy announcements by relevant government agency officials, special sessions by public organizations will be conducted to cover substantial developmental prospects of the industry.
Also, in order to expand the base of drones, various experiential events will also be held to support the establishment of a safe and healthy drone leisure culture and to promote the dreams of young people.
