SOCHI, Russia -- South Korea got off to a disappointing start to the Sochi Olympics Saturday, the first day of competition in the Russian resort town.

Medal hopeful Lee Seung-hoon finished a disappointing 12th place in the 5,000m speed skating event, failing to repeat his silver performance at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. Teammate Kim Cheol-min finished 24th out of 26 skaters.

In the women's 15km cross country skiing event, Lee Chae-won finished 54th out of 61 competitors.

Cousins Seo Jee-won and Seo Jung-hwa, coached by American Toby Dawson, missed the cut in the women's freestyle moguls finishing in 13th and 14th respectively.
