China has banned travel agencies from selling group tours to South Korea.
It is considered an apparent retaliation to South Korea’s decision to house the U.S. missile interceptor THAAD.
China’s National Tourism Administration announced its decision yesterday.
Roughly 17.2 million foreigners are estimated to have visited South Korea last year and among them, some eight million, or nearly half, were Chinese.
Seoul’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Cho June-hyuck said that South Korea will not submit to China’s pressure.
However, individual travelers from China are still able to visit the country.
