BUSAN, South Korea – It’s time to say good bye (and good riddance!) to another cold, dreary Busan winter.

The cherry blossoms that adorn the city are starting to bloom, which signifies the beginning of the spring festival season. The road that lines Samick Beach Apartments in Namcheon-dong, near Gwangan-li Beach is arguably the most famous place in the city to enjoy the beauty of spring. Another hotspot includes Young-do Island, where the Chunghakdong cherry blossom festival takes place every spring.
For those more adventurous, the Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival is something to be seen. The city-wide celebration starts April 1st and lasts to the 11th, however be prepared for some long traffic jams as people from all over the country flock to the city. The festival honors the famous Korean naval hero, Admiral Yi Sun-shin, who helped defeat the Japanese invasions of Korea over 400 years ago.
In late April, from the 23rd-25th, the Eobang Gestival takes place in Gwanganli. It is a Korean traditional festival, which celebrates Busan’s history of fishing. According to the Dynamic Busan website, it includes various events such as street performances, an opening parade, Eobang re-enactment’s, candle wishes, fireworks and a closing performance.
During the month of April, there is also the Gijang Anchovy Festival and also the Daejeo Tomato Festival along the Nakdong River, which runs April 4th-5th around Gangseo Gym Park.
