Busan Universities Look at Renewing Safety Measures After BUFS Tragedy

Universities in Busan will reinforce safe management after a snow-covered roof collapsed in a Busan University of Foreign Studies welcoming ceremony, which was welcoming its freshmen class in Gyeongju.

The Ministry of Education also sent an official document to universities across the country to refrain from outside events.

Some universities, including Pusan National University, Dong-A Unversity, and Pukyong National University held a emergence meeting today to discuss strengthening safety measures.

Dongmyeong University has originally planned a two-day welcoming event for Gyeongju freshmen, but changed it to a one-day event. The welcoming party will begin February 21st.

The Dong-A University welcome party saw a twenty percent decrease in attendance at a Gyeongju hotel after the accident occurred.

Inje University rushed a safety check team to a Gyeongnam resort where the universities’ welcoming event is scheduled on February 26th to check facilities.
