The population of Busan has been decreasing, but also aging, as more people move to rural communities, as well as young people moving to Seoul for jobs.
Over a five-year period, the population of Busan has dropped 109,000 people, a -3.1% decrease of people. The population of the city stands at 3,415,00 down from 3,524,000 back in 2005.
Seoul, including the Incheon area, has increased 4.1% to 23,836,000 which is 49.1% of the people on the peninsula. Gwang-ju saw the biggest decrease, where 4.3% of their population left the city for other places around the country.
Ulsan saw an increase of 33,000 people, as well as Kyungnam saw a 3.4% increase in their population.
With 11.7% of the population over 65, Busan has the highest rating for the elderly in the country.
