BUSAN, South Korea - The project to build the Busan Opera House is now making good progress. The City of Busan launched the International Design Competition for the Busan Opera House at the end of June. The City of Busan will select the winning design at the end of September and, after more design consultations, it will complete the Opera House in 2018. The 1,800 seat auditorium and convention facility will be built in the Marine & Culture Zone in Busan's North Port Redevelopment Area (34,928?), at a total cost of some 300 billion won.

Meanwhile, the City of Busan plans to establish cooperative relationships with Denmark and Norway, which both have world-class opera houses. Busan expects that the Busan Opera House, when completed in 2018, will be a key cultural facility in the transformation of Busan into a global destination.
