Busan Cinema Complex, Dureraum has erected its super-sized roof, known simply as the 'Big Roof', and is now beginning to show off its architectural splendor. Busan held a special ceremony marking the raising of the 'Big Roof' in Centum City, U-dong, Haeundae-gu, on March 23.
It lifted the front part of the roof, measuring 62 meters by 74 meters, about 21 meters from the ground and connected it to the remaining 62 meter by 89 meter part of the structure supported by pillars, thereby completing the roof structure.
The highlight and essence of Dureraum's beauty is its big roof. The longest roof of its kind in the world, it almost seems alive as it soars over the main plaza, which is itself one and a half times the size of a soccer field (163m×61m). On the underside of the Big Roof is an LED screen which will provide splendid lighting and a variety of video effects.
Dureraum will be the dedicated theater for the BIFF and is expected to become the landmark feature of Busan's aspirations as a City of Film. It also has the potential to become recognized as one of the most beautiful structures in the world. It was designed by Coop Himmelblau, a world-famous architect from Austria.
