BUSAN, South Korea – Continuing the special bond with the Busan International Film Festival, Tang Wei will host the Festival’s Opening Ceremony this year.
Tang Wei gained international fame with her role in Lust, Caution, and was selected as one of Variety’s up-and-coming stars under 20 in 2007. She visited the Busan International Film Festival with her film Late Autumn in 2010 and Xu Xia in 2011.
Tang Wei becomes the first foreign host of the opening ceremonies, a bold move made by organizers of the event in lieu of recent political tensions in Northeast Asia. The festival organizers are looking to add a more "Asian flavor" to the festival, but also to make it less Korean-centered and more international.
The 32-year-old actress will also celebrate her 33rd birthday while in town on October 7. A former actress and model, she also competed in Miss Universe China in 2004.
