Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” had a roaring opening weekend capturing 67 percent of all ticket sales according to the Korean Film Council.
The live-action version of the classic, starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens, was seen by 1.4 million viewers over the March 17-19 weekend, unseating the previous No. 1, “Kong: Skull Island” at a distant second with 317,687 admissions, followed by Hugh Jackman in “Logan,” hitting third with 158,723 tickets sold nationwide.
The only Korean movie in the Top 5 was “Part-time Spy” a comedy-action film starring Kang Ye-won and Han Chae-a. While Academy Award winning hit “La La Land” climbed back into the Top 5 after dropping out the week prior.
The American musical film has been in theaters for a long three months, to date selling 3.4 million tickets.
