Competition is heating up in the skies as several new international flights will start operating out of Gimhae Airport.

BUSAN, South Korea -- Busan’s skyways are getting busier as international flights to Japan, Laos and the Philippines are growing more frequent. Busan City announced that two foreign airlines will start operating new routes with chartered planes from the end of this year at Gimhae International Airport.

Lao Airlines will operate a flight from Gimhae to Vientiane from Dec. 28 to Feb. 13. The flight, on a 142-seat Airbus A320, is scheduled for Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and departs Busan around 8 a.m. This is the first direct flight between Busan and Vientiane from Gimhae.

Philippines low-cost carrier ZestAir will operate a chartered plane from Busan to Clark twice a week for two months from Dec. 24, the first route between the two locations. ZestAir is currently flying to Kalibo twice a week from Gimhae.
