Haps Weekend Picks May 4, 5, 6

It's the first weekend in May, and that means things are not only heating up weather-wise, but on the event circuit as well. There's a lot of things going on this weekend, and here's a few options that might make your choice a little easier.

BUSAN, South Korea -- The first weekend in May brings tons of events around the city, as Cinco de Mayo fever hits town. It is also Children's Day in Korea this weekend, one of the bigger holidays every year, so plan for a lot of traffic as many families will be out celebrating because of a promising the forecast.
There's plenty of stuff to do this weekend, so check out the Haps Calendar to find out everything you need to know and where to go to make the most of your weekend. Here's a few events that caught our eye, though it's by no means all that's going on.
Joseon Tongsinsa Busan Festival - The 10th anniversary of this event is marked by the Joseon Tongsinsa International Culture Exchange Project, which includes the Joseon Tongsinsa Parade, and a special welcome parade of Japanese artists. Around 2,000 locals and visitors from Japan are expected to take part in the festival, and a Korean-Japanese Music Festival will see six teams of Korean and Japanese musicians present entertaining performances. The festival also includes a Korea-Japan Food Festival, a clothes zone, a history theme zone and more. May 4-6, Yongdusan Park, Nampodong.
Football Fever - The National League’s Busan Transportation Club hits the pitch this Friday night against Goyang Kookmin Bank, while the K League’s Busan IPark are set for a Saturday afternoon tilt against Gyeongnam FC. Friday, 7 p.m. at Gudeok Stadium and Saturday, 3 p.m. at Asiad World Cup Stadium.
The Ha Ha Hole - Busan’s funniest guys and gals get on stage to do their thing, with this week’s version adding a special Northern Invasion Show. Seven out-of-town comics from the cold wastes of the north are descending upon our little port city for one night only. Friday, 9:30 p.m. at Soul Trane, PNU.
A Night of Rock with Jake and the Slut and Robscenity - The 2011 "School of Basement" Battle of the Bands winnersJake and the Slut bring their whisky-stained electric extravaganza to the smoky stage at Ol'55 in KSU. The lads will be joined by the hottest new box-guitar-misc. duo in town, Robscenity. Friday, 10 p.m., Ol’55 at Kyungsung.
Sharky’s Grand Opening and Cinco De Mayo - The fellas from Sharky’s have a big weekend planned, with the grand opening of Sharky’s Gwangan, and the Cinco de Mayo party featuring great Mexican food and specials at the original Sharky’s out in Haeundae. Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 7 p.m.
Busan Super Cup International Yacht Race - Head on out near the water, where this weekend you can see yacht racing at its finest at the Super Cup International Yacht Race. May 4-6, Busan Yacht Club.
Busan Comic World - As far as conventions go, this is one of the more interesting ones that hits the city, as Busan Comic World is an enjoyable time for kids and adults alike. Explore your inner geek, and enjoy the cosplay while you’re at it! Saturday and Sunday, BEXCO, Haeundae, slight admission fee.
Busan International Performing Arts Festival - BIPAF gets underway this weekend, which is another entertaining option for the next 10 days. Performers from seven different countries will be performing under this year’s theme, “Hello Asia”. Friday through May 13 at Busan Cultural Center, Busan Citizens' Hall, Kyungsung University.
Cinco de Mayo at Blue Monkey - Cinco de Mayo fever hits the Blue Monkey in Kyungsung this weekend as well, with drink specials, a pinata contest and some hip music to go along to their dance off contest. Bring your dancing shoes! Saturday, 8 p.m., Kyungsung.
Cinema Prism: Docu - A plethora of documentary films are taking place currently at the Busan Cinema Center in Centum City. The movies are running through May 16, and admission is 6,000 won. Through May 16 at the Busan Cinema Center, Centum City.
