The last weekend in May has arrived, and there's plenty of things around the city to keep you occupied this weekend.


BUSAN, South Korea - After a hot and muggy week here in the city, being cooped up in the office may not have been that bad after all. But the weekend is here, so it's time to plan for the last weekend in May.

Here are some picks from the Haps Calendar going on around the area. It looks to a great weather weekend so get on out and enjoy the sun.


6th Anniversary Open Mic @ Ol’55 - In case you missed out on Wednesday night’s festivites, Ol’55 is doing it again Friday night with seven of Busan’s best bands in what promises to be a great night of music until the wee hours of the morning. Friday, 9:30pm, Ol’55, Kyungsung

Busan Philharmonic Orchestra: Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique - The BPO is performing at the Busan Cultural Center, with a program of Pyotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky. Tickets are 10,000 won, a great bargain for some great music. Saturday, 7:30pm, Busan Cultural Center

Bullshit Fest @ Club Realize - Four bands are performing punk, metal and hardcore at Club Realize in Kyungsung. Tickets are 10,000 KRW with a free drink at the door, or unlimited beer for 15,000 KRW with entrance fee. Saturday, 8pm, Club Realize, Kyungsung


Wordz Only @ Cafe Radio - Wordz Only is once again on the docket for this weekend, the 21st installment of what is one of Busan's premiere expat events. Wordz Only is a night of spoken word awesomeness, so if you have poems, fiction, non-fiction, limericks, pantoums, raps or rhymes then bring them on down. Saturday, 8pm, Cafe Radio, Kyungsung

International Party @ LZone - Every Friday, the folks at LZone host an international party for students and people of all cultures. Free beer, soju and makkolli, cheap shots, a lounge, playground & PC-Multimedia zones, Wii party games on a huge screen, dart machines, mini pool and a Manga library are all offer. Friday, 8pm, LZone, Kyungsung

Lockstarz @ Almost Famous - Lockstarz, the brain child of Jon Lockley, brings together an all-star line-up. All six dj's have been rockin' Korean dance floors since the late 90s. Should be a great night for dancing. Saturday, 10 pm, Almost Famous, Kyungsung

Independent Movie Screening: Red Stroke - Written, directed, and produced in Busan by local expat Joseph Boyle, the film was made in Korean with mostly Korean actors, so it doesn't matter whether you speak English (it has English subtitles) or Korean - you can still enjoy it! It recently won the top prize in the Long Form Pro-Am category at the CRI Film Festival, and a free screening will be held at Vinyl Sunday evening. Sunday, 7pm, Vinyl Underground, Kyungsung


Samsung vs. SK - For those people up in Daegu, the defending champs are taking on SK in a three game weekend series versus SK. Friday through Sunday, Daegu Citizen’s Stadium

Pohang vs. Gyeongnam - Two local clubs go at it on the pitch at the Steelyard as Pohang takes on Changwon’s Gyeongnam in a Saturday afternoon match. Saturday, 3pm, Pohang Steel Yard, Pohang

Busan IPark vs. Chunnam - The IPark are going for their tenth straight game without a defeat in a rare Monday afternoon encounter with Chunnam at the Asiad World Cup Stadium. Monday, 3pm, Asiad World Cup Stadium, Sajik


Busan International Motor Show - Under this year’s theme “The voyage of the green car across the ocean”, you can check out the latest in automobiles and the models at the Motor Show in BEXCO. Through June 3rd, BEXCO, Haeundae

The 2nd Geumjeong Sanseong Fortress Makgeolli (Rice Wine) Festival - Enjoy some traditional Rice Wine at the festival which is taking place around Spo1 Park, Geumjeong Sanseong Fortress and Geumseong-dong area. Friday through Sunday, Geumseong-dong

KOTESL National Conference - May 26th is another in a series of special events for BGKOTESOL, as our chapter is host to the 2012 KOTESOL National Conference. The conference theme is “Drive: Putting Students at the Wheel.” The conference will be hi-lighted by two internationally experienced educators Mark Helgesen and Tim Murphey. Saturday, 12pm, Pusan University of Foreign Studies

US Voter Registration - Sharky’s Haeundae - The Busan City Chapter of Democrats Abroad are holding a voter registration for American citizens at Sharky’s in Haeundae. The registration drive is for the 2012 Presidential, State, and Local elections. Sunday, Haeundae, 5 pm - 9 pm, Sharky’s, Pale de CZ.
