One of America’s hottest rising comedians, Kyle Kinane, will be performing two shows in Korea this week. You can check him out in Busan at Ol’55 May 11th at 10pm along with members of our very own, and very funny Ha-Ha Hole.

BUSAN, South Korea -- Yes, it is true. It’s happening again. Every year or so, the planets align and the stars converge and an actual, living, breathing, real professional comedian stops off at our humble port city and delivers the yuks to a boozy crowd of laugh-hungry expats. In the past we’ve seen such luminaries such as Ted Alexandro, Danny Cho, Kerry Unger, ex-expat Brian Aylward, along with the legendary Tom Rhodes. We can now count Kyle Kinane to that list. We are very pleased.

Kyle Kinane is a rising talent on the American comedy landscape, gaining a wide following and notoriety for his dead-smart, absurdist takes on modern life. Kinane is both a storyteller and a wicked jokesmith, viewing his daily foibles through the lens of a keen, yet jaundiced eye. With his trademark beard and gruff demeanor, he comes across as a world-weary garden gnome who has busted into the house’s liquor cabinet and liberally imbibed. His voice is his own and his angle totally unique, with enough self-deprecation thrown in to let us all know that he is own best punch line.

Kyle Kinane has been working the comedy circuit for a few years now, but it was his 2010 live album “Death of the Party” that put him firmly on the map. The record was heaped with critical acclaim, designating him a place on Variety’s “Top Ten Comedians to Watch” in 2010. He has gone on to appear on many TV programs such as Conan, Last Call with Carson Daily, Live at Gotham, and David Letterman. In 2011 he taped his very own half hour comedy special for Comedy Central which was named the “Number Two Comedy Album of the Year” by the Onion’s AV Club. In addition to this, he has gone on to do a lot of voice work for the network, including the pilot for the upcoming animated show “Triptank”, with such comedy heavyweights as Larry David, Bob Odenkirk, Bret Gelman, and fellow bearded funnyman Zach Galifinakias.

Simply put, this guy is one of the hottest comics currently in the business.

This will be Kinane’s second visit to Korea, after slaying audiences over two sold out nights in Seoul a year and a half ago. Canadian comic Jeff Sinclair, co-director of Stand Up Seoul and promoter of the event, says that Kinane “absolutely blew the room apart.”  Kinane loved it so much that he’s coming back, this time hitting both Busan and Pohang before heading back north for two shows with fellow comedian Matt Braunger at the Renaissance Seoul Hotel in Kangnam. In our fair town he’ll be gracing the mic at the decidedly less-upscale Ol’ 55, but after watching him shuffle and rant for hours on my coffee-splashed monitor, I have a suspicion that he’s going to feel right at home.
