The three-day Gal Maet Gil Walking Festival is a great way to get out to exercise and enjoy the city.

BUSAN, South Korea -- The Gal·Maet·Gil Walking Festival will take place around Busan City from October 12-14, 2012. The event will include coastal and forest walks, as well as Gal·Maet·Gil walks in each of Busan's 15 gu (districts) and gun (county), and a seminar.

The festival aims to promote the fame of the Gal·Maet·Gil footpaths as new tourism attractions in Busan, and to encourage locals and tourists alike to learn about the local history, culture and ecological environment, by taking a gentle stroll along the paths.

Gal·Maet·Gil are specially designated footpaths around Busan. The name combines two words: Galmaegi, meaning ‘seagull’and Gil, meaning ‘path’. To promote the city’s beautiful footpaths, the Gal·Maet·Gil symbol and logo are used on the Gal·Maet·Gil information boards, footpath maps and signs.

With a total combined length of 263.8km, the 9 Gal·Maet·Gil trails are each divided into two or three shorter segments, and include beautiful stretches of coastal, riverside, forest and downtown paths all around the city.
