Why Don’t Korea and Japan Align?

Why Don’t Korea and Japan Align?

BUSAN, South Korea -- For a while I was collecting links and articles to make an argument about South Korea and Japan working together on big issues like China and North Korea, or finally clinching the much-discussed but little-worked-on Free Trade Agreement. Both the realist and the liberal in me wanted to see two liberal democracies working together in a tough environment with similar structural threats.

Shane Youman Tosses One Hitter as Giants Stay on Top in the Standings

BUSAN, South Korea -- American pitcher Shane Youman tossed a one hitter Sunday, leading the Lotte Giants to a 5-0 win while taking two of three games at home this week against the LG Twins.

Youman (3-0) pitched his first nine-inning shutout of his career, striking out seven in a dominating performance from the mound. Giants catcher Kang Min-ho hit a two-run homer in the eighth to seal the win for Lotte, who are at the top of the standings early on in the 2012 season.

"The defense played a great part in today's win, and the Lotte fans were great," Youman said after the game.

Funked Up & Souled Out is Back

BUSAN, South Korea -- For me, Funked Up is a lot more than just an excuse to rock a skin-tight flower polyester shirt all night (although I certainly do enjoy that). The party has truly become something special to us at Better Magic.

At the time we started the event, we were doing a number of one-night-only, theme-based events. There was an ‘80s party, a space party, a punk night, a rock n’ roll one, a hip-hop night and the list goes on. But we knew from the start that Funked Up was different.

Art and Craft Market now held on Fridays at Busan Station Culture Square

BUSAN, South Korea - Dong-gu District will hold the Art and Craft Market every Friday until the end of November, from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. It is called a 'free market' in Korean because it takes place in an open space not normally designated as a market area, such as on a street sidewalk or in the park.

A sure sign of its growing popularity since last year, a wider variety of handicrafts made by young artists with beads, leather, pressed flowers, and polymer clay will be introduced at the free market this year.

In an art and craft market, local artists come to exhibit and sell their artworks to citizens who have come to buy or browse. The market often takes on the atmosphere of a festival, and is a place where artists and citizens can naturally communicate with each other.

K League - IPark Win In Sangju

SANGJU, South Korea - The Busan IPark scored two first hour goals and held on to defeat Sangju Sangmu 2-1 on the road Saturday afternoon.

The IPark dominated possession and play on the pitch for most of the game, holding on after they had jumped out to an early 2-0 lead.

Park Jong-woo opened the scoring for the IPark in the 40th minute, after a slick Matt McKay pass found him open in the box, and he quickly one touched it to his right foot and drove it past keeper Kim Ho-jun.

McKay again set up the second goal six minutes after the break, when he found a streaking Lee Jong-won who delivered a beautiful strike past Kim to make it 2-0.

Sangju's Kim Chi-gon cut the lead in half on 85 minutes when he headed home a Kim Jae-sung corner, but the IPark held on to to win their fourth game of the season.

The IPark are currently sitting sixth in the table.

Busan Comic World Returns

Busan Comic World Returns

BUSAN, South Korea -- It’s not every day you see a girl with pink hair, rabbit ears and a pair of random foam dice dangling from the sides of her head wandering around outside in the rain with an acoustic guitar she never intends to play. It’s also not every day you see a quiet, unassuming woman selling Korean-language SpongeBob slash fiction.

But once every two months in Busan, you can see oddities such as these – and so much more.

Giants Split Series With Samsung

DAEGU, South Korea - The Lotte Giants came away with a win and a loss this week with Samsung, also having to endure another lost game due to the heavy rains Wednesday night.

Lotte seemed primed to lose game 1 of the series, as Samsung took a 2-0 lead into the top of the ninth. Shane Youman pitched six effective innings, giving up two runs and five hits while striking out six, but Lotte's bats came to life in the top of the ninth when Jeon Joon-woo hit a solo homer, and Lotte exploded for six runs to win the game 6-2.

Lee Yong-hoon (3-0) pitched a third of the inning for the win.

After Wednesday's torrential rain canceled the second game, Samsung showed why they are the defending KBO champs by hitting two home runs off Lotte starter Go Won-joon (0-2) and defeating the Giants 6-3. Hong Seung-hoon knocked in two runs for Lotte, while Kim Ju-chan led the attack with two hits.

Airport Limousine Bus to Haeundae runs via Gwangan Bridge from April 20

BUSAN, South Korea - Busan City has divided the Airport Limousine bus route to Haeundae into two routes to provide greater convenience and a more rapid service for those traveling to and from Gimhae International Airport. In addition to the current Haeundae route via Suyeong Intersection, a new route started operating from Gimhae Int’l Airport to Haeundae via Gwangan Bridge (or Diamond Bridge) on April 20, 2012.

The new route via Gwangan Bridge is expected to reduce travel times by providing a more direct route to Haeundae from the airport and to enhance visitors' first impression of Busan with the beautiful sea views from Gwangan Bridge.
